The New Philosophers Series: Dale Olsen, Outlooks for Men

For many, the concept of self-care creates images of lavish spa treatments, scented candles, and indulgent rituals. In a world where self-care is often associated with the female form, isn’t it time we shed light on the importance of nurturing oneself regardless of gender?

Embracing self-care doesn’t have to be extravagant, it can be as simple as nourishing yourself with a balanced diet and cultivating a positive mindset. We sat down with Dale Olsen, who shared his insights on self-care, aging, and his career at Outlooks for Men.

The art of self-care: A modern man’s perspective

Aging gracefully doesn’t mean giving in to the passage of time; it means embracing life’s adventures with a curious spirit. As we spoke with Dale, his passion for adventure was the leading theme of his life’s biography–a journey to Africa and Japan, to explore different cultures, fashion, and indulge in his love for cycling being the next chapter.

Recognizing that countless adventures still lie ahead, Dale continues expanding his horizon. “Next on my list is Japan for the culture…Africa is next on my wife’s bucket list, so I guess I’m going there,” says Dale. “My age may limit me,” he shares, “but I don’t want it to cancel those prospects.” And so he continues to broaden his horizons and experience more of this life’s magic.

Dale’s role at Outlooks for Men keeps him connected to the ever-changing trends around him. He is constantly surrounded by young generations, which keeps him open to new ideas and styles; the fashion industry has become one of his gateway’s to staying young. “Change, as they say, is the only constant,” he wisely reflects.

While self-care has so often been marketed as a feminine pursuit, Dale recognizes the shifting tide. He acknowledges the lingering stigma among men, while some still associate self care with being “overly fussy.” However, times are changing, and more men are discovering the value of investing time in themselves. “More men are figuring out that time on self-care is time well spent,” he remarks, breaking down the barriers that once confined the notion.

Timeless advice: Reflections and words of wisdom

Dale has timeless wisdom that resonates. When asked about the advice he would give his younger self, he candidly shares, “Be careful of your knees” with a chuckle, before offering a more solemn and profound insight: “Don’t lie to yourself, about anything.” These words serve as a reminder to embrace authenticity and honesty as we navigate life’s journey.

Intertwined within his experiences, Dale shares glimpses into his self-care routine and aspirations. He emphasizes the importance of mindful body care, understanding that our bodies are our only vessel in life and to “understand it’s a long road. Hopefully.” As a dedicated cyclist, he balances his exercise routine with stretching and no-weight workouts. Dale also takes care of his skin, incorporating a simple skincare routine and prioritizing sun protection, especially during his outdoor adventures.

Recognizing the value of personal well-being and self discovery

Dale’s story offers a unique perspective on self-care, aging, and the evolving definition of beauty. His journey at Outlooks for Men, his commitment to adventure, and his personal insights demonstrate the transformative power of self-care for men. Through his words, we are reminded that self-care knows no boundaries of gender, no singular definition, and its benefits extend far beyond physical appearance.

Self-care is a devotion to nurturing our bodies, minds, and spirits, while embracing life at every stage. Let Dale’s story inspire us all to prioritize self-care, break free from societal stigmas, and embark on our own journey of personal well-being and self-discovery. After all, each one of us deserves to feel our own version of confident, vibrant, and fulfilled, regardless of age or gender.
